Paid Public Library Internship
The Lake County Library District seeks a paid intern for summer 2008. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in a small, rural public library district over the course of this 8-week paid internship. Lake County Library District is located in south central Oregon, a part of Oregon’s Outback, and serves the county’s 7,500 residents through services at its main library and three branches.
Two major projects are required of this internship. Under the guidance of the library director, the intern will conduct a collection assessment and develop a comprehensive collection maintenance plan. The intern will also assist the director and library board to gather and analyze information for the library district’s strategic plan. In addition to these major projects, the intern will have the opportunity to further develop her or his understanding of public libraries by attending library district board meetings and meetings of library consortia.
PAY & SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time temporary position paid at the rate of $18.00/hour. Benefits are not offered with this position. The intern will work 40 hours per week during regular library hours for a period of 8 weeks to be scheduled between May 15th and August 15th, 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have completed at least 1 year in a Master’s in an ALA accredited Library/Information Science program by the start of the internship. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated coursework or experience in Collection Management and Strategic Planning.
