Your Library Card
Getting a card, renewing materials, placing holds, etc.
Who can get a card
Getting a library card is quick and easy! Any resident of Lake County is eligible for a free library card. Non-residents may pay an annual fee of $20 to receive a Lake County Library card , which affords all the borrowing privileges of a regular patron, including equipment and interlibrary loans. If you are new to the area, please come in, have a look around, and get acquainted.
How to Get Your Card
Just bring a picture ID with a current Lake County address. If you have just moved here and have not yet changed the address on your ID, you may bring a rent receipt, letter from your landlord, or mail with your current address (such as a utility bill).
Borrowing Limits
New patrons are allowed to check out up to 4 items at a time, and after a probationary period of 3 months may request regular patron status, which allows each patron to check out 12 items at a time. Some services, such as interlibrary loans or use of telescopes, are restricted to patrons of at least 3 months standing. Please feel free to speak to any of the library staff if you have any questions.
Placing Holds
There are several ways to place a hold. If you are in the library, and the item you want is out, you can stop and the desk and ask the librarian to put a hold on the item. You may place a hold by phone, or online. If you would like, we are happy to help you setup your online account,
Renewing Your Borrowed Items
You may renew your materials, in person, online or by phone, up to three times, unless a hold has been placed or you have accrued over $5 in fines. (Items that are already overdue cannot be renewed online, but may be renewed by phone).
Library Fines
Overdue materials accumulate fines at 10 cents per day, for each item. If you accrue $5 or more in fines, your borrowing privileges are suspended until fines are paid. If materials are lost or damaged, you are responsible for replacement costs.
